Lizziebug x Kate Rowland

Making, Collaboration, IllustrationKate Rowland

If you follow me on instagram, you may have seen that this year I have started to learn to sew my own clothes. I absolutely love block printed designs, and felt inspired to print my own fabric with this technique. I applied a modern hack though, and purchased some laser safe rubber to create my own stamp rather than cutting it out by hand (cheating! I know!). Amazingly, it was a success on first trial, and I ended up with one totally unique, block printed moth dress I absolutely love.

After posting a picture on instagram, i received a message from Lizzie of lizziebug clothing, asking if i would be interested in designing a stamp for her to print and make children’s clothes with. how could i pass up such a fun collaboration opportunity! this is the reason I post lots of different content online, and love to play around and experiment. You never know who might see something, and where it may lead.

we began by discussing some design ideas for the print, and settled on a floral inspired bug design, big and bold! we also discussed the fabric and colours to use.

as a starting point, I used the design from my floral bug brooch - i felt that it’s bold floral detail would really print up beautifully.

It was lovely to see Lizzie’s process photos, and see the design for the children’s dungarees come to life. Below are the absolutely adorable finished pair, as modelled by Lizzie’s niece!

Each pair is totally hand printed and sewn by Lizzie! Its lucky as if it was me, It would take 2 months for me to sew one pair! Please take a look if you have a fun loving kiddo in your life!
